Slow Food Merida

Here in Merida there is a group of people organizing an interest in 'Slow Food'.  They are a part of an International movement towards more naturally grown and raised food.  You can get a general idea of what they are doing here     www.slowfood.com

This group has started a Slow Food Market that is available weekly.  Today was the 2nd Slow Food Market.  I had intended to go last week after my dental appt;  unfortunately I was in no fit state after 2 hours of digging and drilling and sucking and biting.  It was a rough dental appt.

Anyway, I went this morning to the market - it was a nice event with a variety of offerings; breads, eggs, dips, fruits, veggies, honey, fresh tofu and soymilk, mermelades, pates, etc.

I bought a few things but found the prices to be a bit high, especially on the things that were made.  A quart of pickles was 75mxp, a small container of blended sauces and or dips for 40+mxp  - part of the problem for me is so many of the prepared things are/were things that I make regularly at home.  So for someone that doesn't prepare things the prices are probably just fine!

Anyway, here are some pictures at the market this morning

The entry to the property -

and on the property are some goats

with these goats shouldn't there be goat cheese?

Techie is cold

WARNING - Gratuitous Puppy Photos -
Avert your eyes if you don't like pictures of peoples kids pets

This morning when I got up, about 6:30am, I opened the back door to let the beasties out and checked the thermometer.    We have a thermometer out back, it indicated the temperature to be 58ºf/14ºc
.

Poor Techie is totally Yucateca - Here is her current favorite napping position.
Well that  is when she can't be under a cover with one of us!

It takes quite a bit of coercing to get her to even poke her head out!

I read today that some 20 more cold fronts (frentes frios) aer expected in this season - AAACCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

June 8, 1974

Tom and I celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary this past June.

At our wedding, my uncle, who had a video camera took some footage of the event. At some point in the deep dark past this reel of 8mm film surfaced and was presented to us. We had never seen the footage. And up until this past July (2009) still had never seen it.

Quite a few years ago we gave the reel of fragile film to a friend who owns a production/film business. He didn't have an 8mm projector at that time but any reason to get something new, or in this case old is and was an adventure for him. After a bit of research and investigation he acquired a projector. The film had become quite brittle, and broke constantly as he tried to work with it. But being the awesome and incredible technical specialist that he is he managed to create a dvd version of the pieced together contents of that old reel. This past July he presented us with several copies of this momentous occasion.

I present here for your viewing pleasure - Tom and Debi's Wedding, June 8, 1974.

It's not great, but worth a chuckle, or reminiscience or two!

A special thanks must be extended to friends Pam and Gary who were, and are Best Man and Matron of Honor, as well as awesome friends!

All good things must come to an end....

Why?

Well in this case -  after the debacle 2 weeks ago where I neglected to put the carafe in the coffee pot before actually starting the coffee and leaving the house...
Tom, who for whatever unknown reason on earth  likes to use the carafe to hold the soapy water when he washes dishes rather than the blue plastic bin I purchased specifically for the purpose of washing dishes, breaks the carafe.  Three years we used that coffee maker in the USofA, and now four years in Mexico.  It served well, and has now been replaced with this little beauty.

The old coffeemaker was a free gift when you purchased a pound or two of coffee from Gevalia,
here it is without it's carafe, on its way out to the street, yes, we looked for a replacement carafe

this new gem was QUITE a bit more expensive.  Check it out - No Carafe required!

You measure the water and pour what you need into the back, put your filter and grounds into a removable bit and push the 'on' button.  When brewing terminates or you can wait no longer, you press your cup up to the gray horizontal bar and coffee is dispensed.  The coffee is held in a removable piece that keeps it hotter, and fresher longer than did the old pot, which is seriously cool since I tend to be up about 2 hours before Tom.

Here you can see the coffee reservoir separated from the base

Ah, Life is Good!

some days are just like that....

One of the things you hear people, people getting older, talking about is how they can't remember shit anymore.  I was always so organized and competent when I was my "working" self.  I carried a Planner, a BIG Planner; I wrote down everything, I re-wrote everyday what was needed, and prioritized that list daily, I rarely forgot to do anything.

A friend, a young friend, an under 30 friend stopped by yesterday and she had notes written on her hand to remind her to do stuff, maybe I should do that?   I'm not sure my hands are big enough?

In fact I forgot all about this blog that I've wanted to write about until I finally remembered to download some photos I had promised for a friend, well she reminded me - So it's not really like I remembered at all...

Anyway, so the other morning I get up, my routine is this -

feed cats, change seed and water in birds, hang birdcages outside, start coffee, turn on computer, take wa stroll through garden with dog, return to house, feed dog, get cup of coffee, check emails and read blogs!

I was doing great till the return to the house part...

OOPS! forgot to put the carafe in the coffee maker------Shit, Damn, Fuck!!!
