An interesting prescription tidbit

April 30, 2010

I thought I'd pass this bit of news on.  I recently had to have a prescription for Ciprofloxacin,  I inquired about a package of 500mg with 8 tablets, 190mxp, which I exclaimed at as being expensive.
The attendant explained that she could get me the generic for a little less,  so for ciprofloxacino, 500mg 8 caplets rather than tablets I paid 60mxp; now that's a bargain.

As interesting as that was, this is the point of my story - When you go for a generic equivalent for your prescription you need to be aware that if included on the packaging is a box symbol surrounding a GI, you have found a a generic substitute that has the same chemical makeup as the Name Brand.

Just thought you'd like to know!

As I understand it some prescriptions billed as generic equivalent are in fact different, or have differing components.

Tatie the wonder kitty!

Friday, April 30, 2010

Our 14 year old Tatie has not been feeling his regular feisty self. What's really odd is his voice changed.  Tatie is very talkative!

He's had testing and his kidneys are in distress,  if we can't turn them he will go into kidney failure.  He already has chronic renal (UTI) issues that we can control with 'Special' food.

We are waiting on yet another 'Special' food and meds from the vet, and after a week he will be retested to see how his kidney function results compare.

So for now, he's here, he hurts, but he's here!

I've been sick!!!!!!

Friday April 30, 2010

I've been sick - It started last Sunday with details you just don't need to know about!  I gave myself till yesterday, yes 4 days! to feel better or else.

Well the or else became a Dr visit.  I have a gastrointestinal bacterial infection.

I am  on ciproflaxin,  which I'm sure will knock this nasty bug on it's butt, but I think it is the riopan that is making the biggest difference for me.  Oh eeschk the waves of nausea were absolutely debilitating.  They've stopped, well I've been up for an hour and not a single flush and wave!  WooHooo.

I feel ready to partay!!!!

Exit Stage Left

Friday, April 28, 2010

Such an odd expression that has come to mean "Out of here...".

And they are!

Since so many keep inquiring -----

This past Saturday I took the kittens to a neighborhood vet who said he could place them.  I hate this, this not knowing... I feel no better than those who abandoned them to the street...  If I had been able to place them where I knew they'd be cared for I'd feel so much better, but I couldn't keep them.  But three weeks and no prospects in sight.  I was/did get too attached to one in particular, and was fast becoming enamored by a second...

Our youngest cat Tate, at 14 years old was so incredibly unhappy and 3 kittens have him so stressed that we had to call the vet today and we suspect his bladder is having difficulty but won't know for sure till some tests can be run.  He was in so much pain he had to have a painkiller shot.

Oh my gosh, I am so past devastated at the moment...Please let them go someplace safe, nurturing, and where they will be loved.

I need blinders, or a cold cold heart!

So we were having friends over for some dinner and cards last night, which was great fun by the way, and I needed a few very specific items.  So I get in the car to head to the store, and what do my wandering eyes behold but a pair of tiny little kittens hovering in a corner on a street of facades and no route in to or out of a yard.  Someone had dumped 2 undernourished and dehydrated 5 week old kittens.

So here are the two I picked up yesterday

So now I am in desperate need to find homes for three 5-6 week old kittens; the one we've had here for 2 weeks (read about him here) who is totally family friendly, loves our dog, plays with well actually terrorizes our two older cats, and uses the litter box.

And here are some pics of the three of them playing

The kittens have been bathed, and are eating well. They use the litter box.  I think they are still a bit young for much else as far as worming or flea repellent treatments.

I am going to have to start wearing blinders whenever I go out, because in some cases I just can't walk on by.

Please if you know of anyone looking for a kitten.

What's a girl to do when she needs a makeover

Typically she calls on her girlies and goes to a salon, and they chat, and laugh, and make some sometimes crazy decisions.    Then they go out and eat and drink, and laugh....   Well I am trying out a new Template, and I don't have any stinkin girlies here to laugh with.  I've erased a bit of code, and now things are out of line.  What's a girl to do?

Geesh, these young programmers don't know how to properly label their code.  Back when I wrote code, you remember, chiseled on big rocks,  we identified what the section of code did, or was supposed to do....

Now it's a big guessing game, or the id tags are so cryptic you aren't really sure what you're looking at.

Ah well, I'll keep trying...

It's finally warm enough for the Pool

This is our pool. I haven't been in it for months because it's been cold. Yesterday was my first time in; Oh it was wonderful. Tom spends so much time keeping it clean and pretty, and it was pure bliss to enjoy.

In fact it was so pleasant I went in again today, I could get used to this!

I've mentioned to Tom many times that he should get help with some of the pool work. I decided to start interviewing potentials.
This fellow caught my eye, he's a super hard worker, wait, what was I thinking, saying, why is he here!!!!

Emergency Medical Spanish

A fellow blogger, living in Jocotepec, has written what I think is a very good resource for non-spanish speakers living or travelling in Mexico.   It is an English -  Spanish Emergency Medical Spanish book.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL SPANISH is a 65 page E-Book, written in mirror form - Spanish/English, that will enable you to communicate in Spanish if you are involved in a medical emergency. This handy - and potentially lifesaving - reference book will take you from making the call for help with the authorities to conversing with the paramedics, doctors, and nurses to ensure you receive appropriate medical care.

You can read all about the book here, which comes complete with a link where you can buy the book.    I get absolutely nothing for plugging this book, except for the good karma in passing on what I feel is a valuable resource.  Be Well, and if you are not well, know how and what to say!

Another kitten needs a home!

Friend Nancy took in a kitten.

She can't keep it but wants to get it off the mean streets.

It's been to the vet and they think its maybe 3-5 weeks old, male, and in fairly good condition.

He hasn't been away from mom long and so is just learning to suck up wet mushy food, and to drink from a water bowl. He uses the litter box.

He still has blue eyes and doesn't see distinctly yet, just shapes and light and dark.

Check out his pretty markings

He is small, as you can see,
here he is in a 2 cup measuring cup

He loves to be held and to get ear rubs
(or as we say, Umoks)

Please, if you've been thinking about adding some love to your life consider this little trinket, he's adorable!

blog changes

So as you know I've been working in both Blogger and Wordpress to see which format I prefer.   What I actually want to change is the way the space on the screen is used and Wordpress does a much better job with its variety of Themes.  However a gazillion designers are out there and they are modifying Wordpress Themes for use on Blogger.

So I am going into transition - I will stick with Blogger because it works for this type of a blog, meaning my ramblings, and because it won't cause you any issues with changing your bookmarks or forgetting to stick with me.   I hate to lose my custom header made by friend Lida, but it's time for a change.  So I am searching out a new Theme - so stay tuned to see what I come up with.

What I am after is something that utilizes more of the screen, with more space dedicated to the post, and with a minimal sidebar to accomodate my blogroll, and archives.   I want a floral theme, something pretty but not too large to make you need to scroll down to start reading the current post.

I have hives...

but not the kind from which you can get honey.  And that is really sad, cuz I'd much rather be getting the honey.

On Monday evening we were at a friends house and all was well - but Tuesday morning when I got up my right hand was feeling very odd, I thought it was the arthritis there acting up.  But then my 2 big toes were itchy, as the day progressed other itchiness occurred.   I went to lunch with friends about 2 and the back of my neck at hairline was going crazy.

When I got home from lunch I was in agony; everyplace where clothing was close and tight was inflamed and itching like crazy, welts started to appear and I could no longer keep from scratching.  I had no clue what was going on and had to resort to internet research to find out -

I started taking Diphenhydramine(antihistimine)  It helped a bit with the itching.  Tuesday evening at bedtime I took 50mg Diphenhydramine and anti-inflammatory and slept pretty good.

Wednesday morning and the rash was still apparent - I did some internet research and discovered that what I do have are hives, but I still don't know from what.  What we've been eating is stuff I made, stuff we're accustomed to...

I took Diphenhydramine on Wednesday morning but was busy and neglected to follow up through out the day.  I went to friend Joanna's at 2 and by the time I left at 5:30 I could barely keep my hands off myself!   Yipes!   It's spreading - hairline, behind left ear, torso, back, arms, hands, thighs, behind knees, shins, feet.... Oh my gosh it's horrible.   Before bed I took 750mg Diphenhydramine and another anti-inflammatory.

What else can I doooooooo - according to the internet  nothing - I'm doing all I can, just need to wait it out!

So I am slathering myself with Tiger Balm because it's loaded with camphor, breathing Roman Chamomile through out the night using my diffuser, alternating with lavendar oil inhalations and rubbing it on myself,  oh but nothing is really working.

Today I got up and it's better,  I'll try to follow up throughout the day with more Diphenhydramine, and lots of lotion.

But what's a girl to do??????   Anyone have any suggestions!

So here is what one arm looks like, and this is sort of close to what a lot of me looks like!
