immigration renewal 2013, el fin

After making the following post
I had a lot of people laughing.

The people at INM promised they would call within 2 - 3 weeks, or as soon as the cards arrived.  Well so far no call, but today, about noon, Tom went up to ask  what's happening?

Well surprise, surprise, the cards are in!   So he got his name on the list and texted me.  I then dressed and drove up.  45minutes to an hour after I arrived we were in, signatures made, and cards handed over.

We are now Permanent Residents of Mexico.
We never need to go through this again!

Immigration Renewal 2013, Part 4

Yes,  I changed the title to reflect 2013, not 2012, because, well you know why!

So as previously instructed, I checked the internet till it indicated I should present myself to INM.

I presented myself to Immigration 3 January - after an hour and a half of sitting and waiting, waiting, waiting I received an appointment for us to go in and get our immigration documents, at least that's the way I am hoping it will go.  An hour and a half just to make an appointment.

So today was appointment day, we had a 9am appointment, and we were there, on time.  At about 9:20 I, not we, was called in to the agent.  I answered several questions; education level, religion, kids, monthly income, height, weight;  I finally wrote on a piece of paper my height and weight in metric, comes in pretty handy.

Then I did my fingerprints, yes, no training, and I'm qualified to do my own, all ten in my case, fingerprints - with a very wet inkpad, and then a piece of dry papertowel to try to clean the ink off. Fortunately I almost always have some baby wipes on me.  You never know when you'll need a baby wipe.  Then the shocker - I was given my nota to take to the bank to make my payment, and thats when I was told in 2 to 3 weeks I'll get a call to come pick up my immigration card.  That's not the shocker - They say they will call me!  That is the shocker.

So stay tuned for part 5!   It ain't over yet folks!

go back to part 2 here

For the most up to date info always refer to Steve's site - it's where I check to see what's new, what's happening.

OK that said  -  Tom and I returned to Imigracion yesterday. We had an FM2 after 5 years with an FM3, and are going for our Residente Permanente visa.  So depending on your situation, your results could be different -  We had everything we thought we could possibly need - What they took was - and this was the same for both of us!

  • Our FM2
  • the form we filled out online
  • copies of passport, first pages only, the ones with the info.
  • our monthly pension/retirement statement
  • copy of fidecomiso page that includes address and our names
  • copy of our last fidecomiso payment
  • they provided a letter that they have where you fill in the blanks with what you want to do

after all this was reviewed and deemed to be in good form we were sent to the bank to pay the 1000peso fee to begin the paperwork process.
  • the payment sheet for the 1000pesos to initiate the paperwork

We were instructed to check back starting the second week in January to see if our documents are ready.

Immigration Renewal 2012, part2

So 7:30am found me sitting on the ledge to the Immigration office,  9am they opened the gates, and we were #13.

Got in to see the Agent fairly quickly -

Point 1 - You CAN NOT renew prior to 30 before the expiration of your current Visa.

Point 2 - We are going for Residente Permanente (Permanent Resident) Status (these are what we were told we would need, your experience could be different)

  • On the on-line form, select these options
    • Que desea hacer? = Cambio de Condicion de Estancia
    • Especifique = Cambio de condicion de residente temporal a residente permanente
    • input your NUE (you find this on your current Visa), and the form fills itself out the rest of the way.
  • What do we need to turn in?
    • The completed online form
    • copy of current visa (take your original)
    • copy of passport pages (take your original)
    • copy of fidecomiso, if you own a house - note: if you are a couple both parties have to have the fide copies (take your original)
    • copy showing payment of fidecomiso, if you own a house (take your original)
    • a most recent utility bill with your correct address, the same address as on your INM form.
    • proof of income, the equivalent of 500 days of minimum salary in DF - 31,165peso, however, since we own our house, and can show our fidecomiso, that amount is cut in half, then with the peso to dollar conversion, today using about 13pesos per dollar, monthly for the past 6 months
    • photos, size infantil, 2 front, 2 side
  • What will be need to pay?
    • per person is 1000pesos for paperwork processing
    • per person, for us - 3815pesos, for a 10-year visa.

ok, that's what I know - today!  could be different tomorrow

Immigration Renewal 2012

9 November brought in to play the new Immigration law. Just, the law, no actual procedures, interpretations, guidelines or training for the INM agents.

Tom stopped in at INM on Thursday to get the list of things required for the renewal process. He was informed that he'd have to return Friday because the law  changed that day and the list of needs isn't available until after the new laws go in to place.

Friday morning I went online and filled out the online forms for both Tom and me to renew our immigration documents, we gathered together everything we felt we needed based on ALL the discussion that we've read and heard.  Our thought process was to show all this 'stuff' and see what panned out.

We arrived at INM about 10:45.  No lists of requirements are available.  The process now, at least here in Merida, and as of last Friday at about 11am is that you show up early, queue up, get your number to get inside, and wait.  When you get inside you meet with an agent who will explain the new process, advise you, and then they will tell you what you need.

So, we've reviewed everything we can find, and we've gathered everything that we think we'll need regardless of which designation they/we determine we'll need and we'll take all that with us tomorrow morning when we get in line outside INM's gates at about 7:30am.

More later!
