Resort Review - Grand Riviera/Sunset Princess All Suites Resort & Spa

So once again I find myself enjoying the comforts of an all inclusive luxury resort on the Caribbean.

Like many of the Resorts along the Caribbean the resorts are large and usually have two sides with slightly different names.  The sides are marketed differently, although you can access the services of either side as long as they are within your buy in tier.  There are usually differing levels of purchase, which grant you not only upgraded rooms, but also access and privileges different than other levels.

A week ago we heard from a long time Colorado friend that he, girlfriend and their  respective teenage daughters were going to be at the Grand Sunset Princess Resort  just North of Playa del Carmen.  So taking a few days to rearrange a few things, line up pet-sitting etc, we made a reservation.  No easy feat I might add - I like a bargain, no I need a bargain, or at least to think I'm getting a bargain, or at least some small discount -  all inclusives are no bargain.  I started researching, using search engines etc. I then resorted to, of all things, actually calling the resort, who by the way has the absolute highest prices, they quoted me 200usd per person, per night.  Uh, no thanks!  But we want to see our friend, back to the internet.   Finally after much trying, and being tried, we managed a one night rate of 270usd.  Good frickin grief!  However, to add insult to injury, every web site is saying 2-night minimum. We don't have 2 nights, and we don't want to intrude that much on their vacation

But, we want to see our friend!  Finally, after much trial and error, Tom manages a one night stay through hotels.com.    Tom  registers our stay, pays online, and prints out our confirmation. We are set!

So Sunday am we set off - we arrived at the Resort  about 12:45, approach the registration desk, and wait.  Checkins take a while.   When it is finally our turn we show our confirmation, our prepaid confirmation, and after must fudgeting around we are informed that they can't find our registration.  After a bit more fudgeting and checking we are again informed our registration can't be found.  We are then asked to fill out a check in card, show id, and provide a credit card.  We are issued wristbands and advised to come back after 3pm for our room assignment.    Ok, no problem.

I inquired about the access code for the internet and am told it will cost 20 usd for 24 hours, I am flabbergasted, gob-smacked, and quite incredulous, I mean a place that costs this much, charging for wifi service.
The clerk says to me, didn't you travel agent explain this to you?  Well no!

Tom comments to me as we are leaving on the desk clerks attitude....I try to be neutral, although I admit I was put off as well. He was a bit condescending and discourteous. He did point out and circle on the site map where the lunch buffet was, which building our friends were in, and which building we would be in based on our level of purchase.  There is a lot of obviously visible distinguish between what level you bought in as.  No mention to us about activities, evening entertainments, how or where to make reservations for specialty restaurants, where are the spas, how to make appts for spa services, or that, as we found out later, there is a full Resort orientation offered.  Well, we don't actually have a room, so maybe that's why.

after the drive up portico this is the entry
bar on the left, registration on the right

registration desk, always seemed to have a line.
from inside the property looking back at the main building

Off we go to look for our friends - this property is huge, I mean HUGE!  They provide golf cart rides from the front of the resort via a wide lane that runs along the outside rim of the resort. This is also how they move around luggage and services as well.  This ring road would also be great for runners and walkers to maintain their exercise regimens.

the wide ring road that circles the property
the walkways are all lined with these gorgeous sculptures
which really help you remember what building your room is in!

We decided to stop in at the lunch buffet since we were both quite hungry, having had nothing but coffee prior to leaving the house.   The majority of the restaurants are located at the large complex at the head of the property, which is located the farthest from the beach.

The lunch buffet room is large, dimly illuminated, not so as to be dark, but just dim.   Lots n lots of tables, and quite cool, as in a/c.   The buffet stations offered a large variety of salad options, there was a station with all sorts of salsa, sauces, pickled veggies, and chiles.  There were of course a large variety of postres/desserts,  2 soups urns, breads, chips, beverages, and fresh fruits. The hot buffet offered a large selection of meat choices, and a variety of rice concoctions, as well as a make your own pasta dish station.   Overall I'd give this buffet 3 stars.  The food was just ok; the salad selections were abundant, fresh, and  good, Tom said the several meat items he tried were ok, but he pushed them aside and ate mostly salads, the pescado tikinxic I tried was quite un-palatable.  The staff was very good, pleasant, attentive, etc.  my biggest complaint is that since they allow wet swimsuits in they shouldn't have upholstered chairs,  I sat down, only to jump up as my seat was soaked.  I tried a sauvignon blanc, and could barely tell that I was drinking a wine product.

So off again to find our friends, which we did.  We sat with them out at the beach and had a nice visit.    The 2 daughters were along as their high school graduation gift - sweet!

There is no beach service, unless you are in high pricepoint purchase, and then you get to go in to a 'special' separate beach area. So for drinks in our area you must queue up and order from the bar. There is a food station on the beach where you can get grilled burgers and hotdogs, there was a huge paella, there were chips with pico de gallo, and guacamole.

There are pool/ lounging areas for whatever you are in the mood - conscientious adults (reading, resting, visiting with friends), young adults drinking too much and being very loud at a swim up bar with loud music, family areas, private pool / lounge areas if you are in the proper buyin tier, and at the beach there are ropes delineating service areas, again based on buy in tier.

you can select rooms with swim in/ out balcony!
these pools were very quiet,
but seemed to be a favorite among families with  kids along.

On the beach there are cabanas where you can get massage, there are also cabanas of vendors, unfortunately blocking quite a  bit of the view, and only in the lower tier areas, the Platinum beach had neither vendors, nor cabanas blocking the view, and they had beach service staff.

About 5:30 we decide to go see if we have a room and make a plan to meet up at 7:30 for an 8:15 dinner res at the specialty Italian restaurant Mamma Mia.

So back at reception - the clerk we started with is gone, so we try explaining again what had transpired earlier in the day.  This guy doesn't actually listen, but assumes he knows what is going on.  Whatever!  He couldn't find the checkin card from before, whatever - We get a room assignment! Tom retrieves our bag which has been sitting out on the front stoop since we got there and we head off to our room. We just have one small bag so  taking it with us is no issue, although no bell service was offered.

Our  Junior Suite room (7122) is nice; large comfy king bed, sofa, 2 chairs, there is a spacious safe, an ironing board but you must call for an iron, and there is a hairdryer and a makeup mirror...  There were some sticky can rings on the counter, and a leaf behind the door in the shower.  The bathroom is quite large and very pretty.  But something I found quite odd, the toiletries were all from Dreams, which is another big resort chain.  The standard stuff - shampoo, conditioner, soap, comb, shower cap, but no lotion.  The mini-bar has water, a few sodas, and some beer  -  There is mention of neither price, nor free, so we risked it and used the waters - there was no charge for these when we checked out so one must assume the mini bar is free.  Although oddly, there is a sticker with mini-bar hours?????  My only  room complaint is the pillows - They are quite thick and very firm, not to my taste, and unlike other resorts to which I've been, there were no options for different pillows.

The balcony has two chairs and a table, we look out to the outside ring of the resort property to the East.  The grounds are lovely.  We can see the 'Kids Club' from our room, and the hammock area.

So, Mamma Mia - first, men must wear long pants, women can have their cootchies hanging out, but men must wear long pants. The color scheme is sort of purpuly, it's cute but looks more french bistro than italian.  Service was fine, food was fine, nothing mind blowing, 3 1/2 stars.
If you purchase a bottle of wine you will enjoy is far more than the really bad house wine they will pour, which I suspect has been watered down.

there are lots of interesting seating spaces to visit with friends, share a drink, or read a book!

At night there is a large seating area where a band plays, there is also a theatre with evening entertainment, but we never saw a schedule of what was  happening...

cool outdoor space for evening entertainment and dancing

Although we didn't use any of the spa services we did walk in and look around!  The spa areas are beautiful, the individual service rooms are huge, there is even a temazcal, and maya healing space.

the temazcal

inside the spa area

Thank goodness check out went fairly smoothly - theyhad found our original prepaid reservation - so when  I asked for the receipt where they had imprinted our card, and had us sign, I was told they couldn't give that to me but the clerk tore it in to bits in front of me?????  I used a Mexican bank debit card to pay for our incidental expenses because the exchange rate they give is really bad.

So overall, this is a nice resort, beautifully kept and maintained. Staff and organization could use some tweaking.

But  seriously, at this price point, and we were in the cheapest level room, at 280USD per night, and they ding you 20USD FOR INTERNET!    based on that alone I would not recommend this resort - I mean really, even budget hotels in the region offer free wifi in their public spaces.

Resort Review - catalonia royal tulum beach and spa resort, again!

My friend Suk came to town and she and I took a few days to relax along the Caribbean.  She has a particular favorite resort, and I sure can understand why.

She needs serious decompression from the rigors and stress of her job; she works critical care for transplant patients.

The Catalonia Royal is the perfect place for her to unwind.
It is Adults only, and all-inclusive.

I've written about it before! about catalonia royal tulum beach and spa resort.

Suk has now been 4 times, and this was my second. We were last there in May 2011. I can't believe it's been just a year and a half.  We recognized, and were recognized by several of the service staff which made us feel so welcome and comfortable.

It's a very comfortable resort, the food was good, the service was excellent, and the rooms were very comfy.

I highly recommend it for anyone needing a stress-free, do nothing kind of get-away. Now don't get me wrong, you are not locked in, you can go out on tour adventures, action adventures, shopping adventures, etc.  It's just that we like to sit on the beach, read, people watch, be mesmerized by the waves etc.

Can't wait till next year!  We're going to do it all over again!

Resort Review - Catalonia Royal Tulum - Day 3

So yesterday we just, I say Just with a big smile on my face, we just hung around on the beach all day.

It really was lovely!  More windy than the previous 2 days, and although we both had on spf50 and 55 we got a little pink.

It's good to travel with Suk; I tend to be a bit introverted and Suk is very friendly open, and outgoing. She strikes up conversations with people so where I wouldn't have if alone, we are meeting and having long conversations with lots of people.

One thing we have both commented on here are the number of Germans, well I think they are German. I'm pretty sure it is a Germanic language but is is swiss german, french german, german german, no se!

Lots of Italians too!  Unfortunately all these Europeans smoke, a lot!  Guacala!  In fact there is one on the balcony right next to me smoking right now!  BLECH!

Right outside our balcony is a large bare limbed Flamboyan that is higher than the surrounding trees.  It is a great bird perch.  Each morning I see Social Flycatchers, Orioles, hummingbirds, Yucatan Jays and Melodious Blackbirds taking turns perching here.   In the tree canopies are large black iguanas catching the morning sun and a leafy breakfast.

Yesterday, in addition to all the other wildlife we saw chacalacas in the trees.  Quite a lot of fauna here on these grounds; adds quite a bit of interest for me.

As I sit here a new, unfamiliar to me bird comes, white eye streak, reddish tail uppers, yellowish below, long pointy beak, greyish black with dots on shoulders and short choppy streaks all over, and quite a screechie call.  I'll have to look this up when I get home to my books.

Today we have our spa treatments;  Suk had massage Tuesday, and is getting the hot stone massage today.  I am having a package; facial, exfoliation, and massage.  I should be glowing when I get home.

Oh, I could definitly go for a few more days of this!.   We had thought to go to Playa del Carmen yesterday but never made it, maybe next time.   We need to leave quite early tomorrow as I have a very important event to attend at 2pm, and we want to stop at some stone carvers we saw coming in before reaching Tulum, maybe get some new yard art.

Oh, just a few more days at this lovely beach....

Resort Review - Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraíso

The Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraíso is sheer luxury and opulence. A place in Mexico where adults come to enjoy new heights in luxury.  This is how the write up on the internet starts, and it is correct.

Once again, I find myself living in the lap of luxury -
The Iberostar Grand is FABULOUS!  This is where I want to live!

Our friends, the she of the couple is a travel agent, and one of the percs is that when you sell certain properties they gift the agent with comps!  And the Iberostar was incredibly generous in that they let our friend bring guests!  And even more fortunate for us, our friends daughter and her husband were unable to accompany them,   BONUS! SCORE! Sometimes being number 2 is OK!

We arrived at the Grand just moments after a heavy thunderstorm,  No problem, the entry is covered and they have in addition to bellmen, valet parking!   They take your keys, give you a return call ticket, and a cool towel to refresh yourself as you are gently guided to the lobby.  Oh Yeah!   I'm definitely liking this!

So we are getting all registered and up comes, oh no, not a bellman, but our Butler, yes, at the Iberostar Grand each section has a Butler. Alberto walked us to our room, pointing out items of interest along the way, as we walked he let us know that anything we needed or wanted we should contact him; I inquired of a soft pillow, he made a note and I had it a short time later. Tom inquired over some dark beer as all that was available in the mini bar were lights, they too arrived shortly; cable for the internet, not a problem. Oh Yeah, I could live like this!

the lobby!

The Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraiso is elegant. It reminds us of The Venetian in Las Vegas. Gilt, and Gold, and painted ceilings, and lovely furnishings, and big open rotundas, some with space open to the out of doors, some with seating..

Long lovely walkways to get you from one space to another, Art, Sculpture, Floral Arrangements....

There are golf carts to move you around, or shuttle buses if you need to leave the property. All the staff speak several languages. You can't tell what country you are in. There really is nothing to let you know you are in Mexico. Even the extensive plantings could be from anywhere! Quite the warp for your mind!

Tom and I never left the Resort grounds.
We hung out mostly at the Serenity Pool. OH!, there are 3 separate pool areas.

The Main pool which is huge, and salt water, and has fountains, swim up bar, lounges sitting in shallow water, and, and, and...

There is the Serenity Pool that is quite large also, has chlorinated water, and jacuzzis at either end; warm on one end, cool on the other. This area is a 'Quiet' space, soft voices, no music.

And then there is the Spa Pool, indoors, but with a retractable roof, Soothing music, Steam Rooms, Saunas, Gym, Spa Services, Juice Bar, Spinning Classes......

Oh Yeah, I could live like this!

There are a number of restaurants and buffets. I'm not going to gush over the food, with the exception of our night at the Japanese Restaurant, the food was all very good!

What makes this Resort so EXCELLENT - It's the Service, Yes, Service with a CAPITAL 'S'. Oh my gosh! Every time we returned to our room someone had been in and straightened it up. In the evening the wool rugs were stowed and linen throws were down for our feet, Our bed was remade and turned down, the comforter and decorator pillows were stowed and linen covered covers and pillows were added, essential oil candles were burning, fresh towels every time we used one, if we drank a beer, it was replaced.....

As you move through the complex everyone greets you, smiles, is accessible...

There are also the entertainment events, but the invitations were more subtle, and appreciated. We went to a Boogie Nights Music with Dance show which was really quite good, there was an outdoor Lounge Party with Live music at the Main Pool where you could drink, and dance, and meet other guests... There was archery, cooking classes, wine tastings, darts, pingpong, and other stuff - to many to remember.

Oh, and then there are the rooms!

ummmm, free mini bar!

Oh Yeah - I Could Live Like this!

Resort Review - Iberostar Tucán - Playacar

Iberostar Tucán Playacar - Day 1, arrival day

Well once again, and Thanks to my friends, I find myself a guest, in every sense, at another All-Inclusive.
This time I am at the Iberostar Tucán in Playacar near Playa del Carmen on the Caribbean.

Oh yeah, I could get used to living like the Rich and Famous!

I had reviewed the info on their webpage regarding instructions on location and how to get there since we of course were driving ourselves over from Merida. All I can say about their instructions are - They Suck!
The directions are given as if coming from Cancun, no problem, I can figure things out.
"From Cancun International Airport
1.Head south-east for 3.5 km
2.Take the branch road and join the Carretera Federal 307 / Mexico 307. 40.9 km
3.Change direction. 500 m.
4.Turn right at the Camino a la Pileta de Playa del Carmen. 400 m.
Arrival at the Iberostar Tucan."

As you can read, They indicate you drive South to a specific Retorno (Turn Around) and then when heading North again you turn Right at Camino a la Pileta...? Errr, DING DING DING, WRONG! We drove and pondered, and guessed, and finally asked at a PEMEX, apparently you turn at the HUGE sign that says PLAYACAR. Who could miss this sign, and why didn't they mention it? Once you enter Playacar, which is a large residential area you are once again on your own, No signage! We found it, although I can't tell you how. I did at one point see a big Personnel transpot with the Iberostar logo and was trying to find a turnaround so I could follow it, No luck, but we found it none the less.

We arrived at about 2:15pm; check in is at 3pm. we waited for the Check In Clerk to finish her business with the folks ahead of us. We got all checked in and had about 20 minutes to make the lunch buffet, if we hurried, and since we hadn't yet eaten that day we hurried. Alas we missed the buffet so went to the Beach Side Snack Bar Uxmal and ate a light meal knowing we would have dinner in a few hours with our friends, and hosts to this lovely trip.

After we ate we took a little tour of the grounds - really lovely. A bit too many rooms/guests for my taste. People everywhere. This is a family resort so kids of all ages.

lovely beach area

On our walkabout We inquired at the Beach massage area about prices, a 50 minute massage is 1300? pesos WHAT?????

We then inquired about a Whale Watching excursion as this is the season that the whale sharks are in the area - 220USD PER PERSON! WHAT????

We then sat in on a FREE 30 minute Spanish lesson and learned the Spanish names for all the parts of the body.

We meandered through the grounds, along the beach, around the pool and then back to our room. By this time our friends had arrived. It is/was great to see them, it's been about 3 years since we last sat together. After a brief reunion we retired to our respective rooms to unpack and refresh with plans to meet later for dinner.

So after unpacking, checking out the room amenities, figuring out the room safe and the TV I decided to check out the internet. WTF!!! No internet, at all, anywhere! There is a 'Business' Center where you can use their machines, OR you can sit in the lobby and use your machine, all at an enormous fee. I mean like 15USD for 24 hour connectivity, or 5USD for 30 minutes. I am apalled! I mean REALLY, this day and age, and no wifi in your room??????

I for sure wouldn't return, much less book a resort or hotel that didn't offer wifi.

We did meet up with our friends for dinner and ate at one of the 'Specialty' restaurants, the Mexican Restaurant La Hacienda,  we hadn't been able to get a reservation, but we checked at the hostess and apparently some folks had not come so.... The food was good, upon being seated your drinks order was taken and you were given a plate of wings and directed to the appetizer/salad buffet, you then ordered and were served your dinner. It was quite lovely. Although there was some disappointement as the menu indicates that your taco selections will be made tableside, but they weren't.

Day 2, first full day of relaxation!

we were awakened to the screams of the howler monkeys in the trees just outside our room. One thing about this property is there is a lot of wildlife, and I don't necessarily mean the drunken americanos.  It's so very cool to sit on your balcony and have the monkey show!

this is our balcony, taken from the sliding door into our room!

right outside my balcony - amazing!
We've seen agoutis, spiny iguanas, a type of duck I can't yet identify because of no stinking internet, howler monkeys, herons, cranes, gulls, frigates, swans, peacocks, so many birds, cucaracha, coatimundi, raccoon, cats, the list goes on!

So we dressed and went on another walkabout, the grounds really are exceptional. This property seems to be built over a large network of grottos and caverns, there is ground water creating waterfalls, and lots of jungle left. They really did a lot of work to build up and create a base for the hotel and restaurant structures. There is one deep lagoon/grotto that has a number of birds and ducks, as well as 2 large white swans, Lovely. Large volume water features are bisected by elevated walkways, lots of water plants and fish add interest.

Apparently a 'common' feature of Iberostar properties is to have 2 separately identified properties connected by some common middle ground. In this structure are the Iberostar Tucán , and the Iberostar Quetzal. Apparently each side is represented by a different Tour Sales Operator; the TTucán is a featured location of Apple Tours!

Anyway, we made our way to the restaurant Tulum that provides the breakfast buffet, which was fine, Nothing exceptional. Your standard stuff, cereals, breads, sweet breads, bacon, sausage, fruit, yogurt, eggs, omelette station,,,blah, blah, blah - Standard buffet breakfast fare. We were there for quite a while, mostly having coffee and people watching. We eventually made our way to the beach and met up with our friends and staked out our little spot on the beach. It is a wide and deep beach area, with LOTS of beach lounges - A few scattered palm trees, palapas, 2 massage stations, a volleyball court, and a lifegaurd lookout that is manned.

We hung out on the beach, chatting, and catching up, and in and out of the water, which by the way is absolutely beautiful. Eventually we ended up back at the Beach side Snack Bar for lunch. I found the food to be less than satisfactory. After lunch we were back on the beach, in and out of the water....

We tried to make reservations at some of the 'Specialty' restaurants, but ALL were booked.  The best we could manage was a 9pm seating at the Japanese Restaurant on our last night there.

Overall the Tucán/Quetzal is a great Family location.   There are lots of activities, a huge pool, ice cream stations, ...  It's not a bad place for people travellling without kids either,  The grounds are lovely, the staff is very attentive, and all speak a minimum of 2 languages, most speak 3,4 and more languages, but you can be assured of ASpanish and English.  I don't like that smoking is allowed everywhere except inside the restaurants and snack bars.  So you are constantly having to walk through the smoke!   blechhhhh

My other complaint, and it would keep me from returning is the lack of wifi in the rooms.  I mean really, in this day and age????  We rely on internet to contact and stay in touch.

But if you can live without wifi, and with the cigaretter smoke then this is a very nice resort.

Resort Review - Catalonia Royal Tulum - Alegria Spa

Alegria Spa

Day 2 of our trip found me sitting peacefully on the beach in the shade reading a book and Suk getting a full body massage. Which she said was "Very Good".

Victor spends his days at the resort approaching guests and extolling them on the virtues and benefits of utilizing the resorts spa services. He tells you a bit about the services and points out the current specials. Sometimes he has with him one or two of the Spa Technicians and a massage chair and offers you a free 5 minute neck massage.

Day 3 found us once again talking with Victor and on this day he sold each of us on a spa service ''Deal". Suk signed up for a Hot Stone Massage (80minutes), and I selected a package that included a facial (25minutes), exfoliation (50minutes), and neck and shoulder massage (25minutes). We couldn't get in till Day 4, which meant we had to be very careful about the sun. Not like we weren't anyway; neither of us lay in the sun, we sit in the shade, with sunscreen.

So Day 4, 12:30 finds us at the Spa, which is lovely, and includes a small gym, steam room, sauna, hot tubs, and the spa service area.

The Rest Area

We were each introduced to our Technicians, Juventino for Suk, and Lisette for me, and directed to the changing room where we were issued our locker key and informed to disrobe, don the robe contained in our locker and enter the 'Rest' area. Now Suk, being 5 ft tall and under 100lbs fit nicely in the robe, I on the other hand being 5'7" and well over 100lbs was not quite contained in the robe. A lovely robe VERY thick and heavy; would have been perfect in Chicago in January, but May on the Riviera Maya, NO!

So off to our respect treatment rooms.

After my treatment I was told I could rest in the Rest Area, have a cool drink, etc. Well except that I had to pinch the robe together to keep the other spa service folks from seeing things they had no interest in seeing. So off to the changing are I went. I dressed then returned to the Rest Area to wait for Suk.

Suk was very disappointed in her Hot Stone Massage. Because of her work she has a lot of stress in her neck and shoulders; and even though she was told the Hot Stones relieved this type of tension, and even though she was having her Hot Stones with Juventino who had given her her massage 2 days previous and had done a fabulous job, the Stones did not do what she had wanted. So what a rotten way to end a fabulous stay!

My package was a bit disappointing although Lisette did a fabulous job; I can't blame her, but must take myself to task for not asking more questions. The brochure gave very brief descriptions and I guess I just projected what I wanted into that. The massage part was great, Lisette has very strong hands and was just starting to break down some of my knots and tension when she had to stop and move on to the next step - The exfoliation, was very light. I think it was a sugar scrub. I use a salt scrub and get a deeper exfoliation at home, although I don't typically get my back! The facial was nice, moisturizing, no deep cleansing and/or pore reduction. My face was well hydrated and felt great, but I really wanted a more deep pore cleaning. My fault for not being more specific.

So our trip was a roaring success.

We found that we travel well together, and make good roommates. I think we'll do it again!

Resort Review - Catalonia Royal Tulum - Day 2

So last the entertainment was a Mariachi band and a dance troupe called Raiz/Raices de Mexico who did what they called a Prehispanic Show. It was entertaining, but I'm not sure just how Prehispanic it was, although they did their renditions of several dances I had heard of/seen before. The show overall was entertaining, that's all I'd give it, entertaining.

Today, after sleeping in (till 8:15) we putzed around a bit then headed for the breakfast buffet, I managed to curtail my gluttony and ate only one piece of bacon and that was for my husband!

We headed to find the guy we spoke to yesterday to set ourselves up for some spa services, took us a while to find him, but we are all set!

The grounds here are really quite lovely and you can get a pretty good workout just walking around exploring.  The walkway are  overhung by large trees so the walking is mostly in shade, there are natural areas with small ponds, beautiful plantings, areas to sit...  They have soft music coming out of speakers that look like rocks.  We've encountered critters; coatimundi, black and spiny iguanas, what I was told by a groundsman is a 'ceriquito', don't know if the spelling is correct, by my internet search makes me think it is an Agouti, lots of birds...

I actually participated in a water aerobics class being offered; it's crazy these all inclusive places, they offer all sorts of entertainments for the guests; Do we need entertaining? They have quite a staff of fit, tanned, attractive young'uns to entertain. Offered water aerobics, salsa lessons, volleyball, scuba lessons, catamaran lessons, all sorts of activities, guess it keeps the guests on site rather than having them going out or off property.

The pool area is lovely.

Suk and I prefer to pass out day on the beach

I must say I am impressed with the staff, they are all very well trained, very attentive, friendly, eager to help, actually anticipate,  quite lovely.
